The Congress president Rahul Gandhi has finally resigned putting at rest all speculations, especially accusations by the BJP leaders  that it’s all the deliberately enacted drama and that Rahul Gandhi will finally remain the Congress party president as there is no reason that the party would allow an alternative to emerge other than the family member.

After the terrible defeat of the Congress party under Rahul Gandhi’s stewardship on three consecutive ocassions viz in 2014 national elections, 2017 assembly polls and now in 2019, the entire party was in a demoralisation mode but despite all this, the senior leaders of the party and the coterie surrounding him and 10 Janpath never wanted Rahul to quit owning moral responsibility for the drubbing at the hustings. But Rahul Gandhi was adamant. He wanted to prove things differently and slap his arch rivals who’d been accising him and the Nehru Gandhi family of always sticking to power and taking the cudgels of the party in their hands not giving opportunity to any leader other than the family for the top slot. Rahul Gandhi finally proved the BJP leaders wrong and resigned despite several resignations coming in his favour from all over India within the party. Rahul Gandhi had tendered his resignation from the party presidentship right after the party’s drubbing at the hustings. He had offered to quit in the CWC making headlines in the print and electronic media through out the contry but the CWC, the highest decision making body of Congress comprising of top senior leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Dr. Manmohan Singh, Priyanka,  all the CMs etc had outrightly rejected his offer and had instead passed a resolution expressing overwhelmning faith in his leadership saying that it’s not he, individually,  but the entire party which is responsible for the debacle. There had been attempts  by CMs of the Congress ruled states and all the senior leaders of the party including the rank and file to impress upon him to continue as according to them no other leader in the party accept Rahul Gandhi can lead the party to victory and rejuvenation mode in the future. However despite the number of days’ hectic activities and deliberations to request Rahul Gandhi to continue as the party’s national president, the chapter finally closed down today when adamant Rahul taking on him, the moral responsibility for the party’s drubbing at the hustings, finally resigned creating a sort of political storm in the Congress party at the pan India level. Rahul Gandhi declared his resignation by tweeting today: It is an honour for me to serve the party who’s values and ideals has served as the life blood of our beautiful nation. I owe the countrymen and the party a debt of tremendous gratitude and love. Rahul also posted a four page letter expressing his views as to why he has resigned and his vision about future India including attacks on BJP.It would be unjust to hold others accountable but ignore my own responsibilty as the president of the party. Rahul Gandhi who took the cudgels of the party on his shoulders as party president after his mother Sonia expressed her in ability to continue to health reasons and ageing told reporters in parliament that he has quit and is no longer the president of the 135 years old Congress. He said that now the Congress working committee should immediately convene its meeting and apooint or elect a new president. The party’s senior leaders and chief ministers of all the Congress ruled states like Ahmed Patel, Amrinder Singh, Kamalnath, Baghel, N Narayanswamy and Ashok Gehlot failed to pursuade Rahul Gandhi to take ba his decision. All these leaders expressed full faith in his leadership and said that he would always be the guiding force of the party under whose unstinted leadership the party would function and move ahead with more zeal, enthusiasm and commitment.
