Rahul Gandhi protests at CBI headquarter and courts’ arrest . AAP, CPI, TMC n NCP also participate in the march !
The Congress president Rahul Gandhi alongwith the party leaders and thousands of followers n party workers today mached from Dayal Singh College to the CBI headquarter and courted arrest later on by voluntarily stepping in the Lodhi Road police station and sitting in the company of the senior police officers for half an hour before being released.
Hundreds of Congress workers having playcards in their hands raising anti government slogans including a model of Rafale fitted on the truck alongwith Rahul Gandhi, Ashok Gehlot, Randeep Singh Surjewala, C. Raja of CPI, AAP’s Sanjay Singh and TMC’s Mamta Bannerjee (who joined later on) marched to the CBI headquarter where the massive crowd was addressed by Rahul Gandhi, R.Raja, Mamta Bennerjee and Sanjay Singh who condemned in unequivocal terms the illegal, arbitrary, unconstitutional and uncalled for attitude of the BJP government to target Alok Kumar and remove him desperately at midnight.
Addressing the anti govt slogan shouting crowd Congress president Rahul Gandhi said that since the former CBI director had initiated the efforts for the investigation of the Rafale Jet fighter deal Mr. Alok Verma has been arbitrarily removed and Nageshwar Rao appointed in his place against whom number of cases of corruption are allegedly pending.
West Bengal chief minister Mamta Bennerjee said that the CBI has now transformed into BJP Central Bureau of Investigaion who are misusing premier investigating agency against its political opponents.
Rahul Gandhi covered about 4 kilometres distance with thousands of party workers on foot amidst raising of anti government and pro Gandhi slogans and finally courted arrest before being released. Rahul Gandhi’s body guards had a challenging time to safeguard the VVIP who did’nt cared for the security cover mixing himself with the unconyrolled crowd and later on climbing on the truck to address the crowd.
It may be recalled that the Congress high Command had issued instructions to all the state Congress chiefs all over India to hold protest demonstrations in the state capitals and if possible at district headquarters to register their protest ahainst what they called the arbitrary, unconstitutional and undemocratic action of the BJP government in removing the CBI director Alok Verma.
Earlier it had similarly issued circulars to hold protest demonstrations against the Rafale Jet Fighter Deal highlighting the various alleged irregularities and inadeqiacies in the deal which they termed as allegedly corruption ridden by favouring Anil Amnani’s company for an offset deal inlieu of the public sector undertaking HAl and enhancing the price of Rafale aircraft three times more and also lessening its number from 126 Rafael fighter jets to mere 36.
