Ranbir Kapoor’s sister Riddhima Kapoor Sahni apologises after being accused of plagiarism: ‘Would Never Copy’
- Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Kapoor’s eldest child, Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, who owns a jewelery brand ‘R jewellery’ has been accused of plagiarising a set of diamond and pearl earrings. After she launched her new festive collection, she got called out for plagiarising the design of the earrings.
An Instagram user page, Diet Sabya, an anonymous Instagram account dedicated to calling out the fakes and the rampant plagiarism in the industry, lashed out at the designer for copying the jewellery design of Kokichi Mikimoto!”
For those who are unaware, Mikimoto Kokichi (25 January 1858 – 21 September 1954) was a Japanese entrepreneur, who is credited with creating the first cultured pearl and subsequently starting the cultured pearl industry with the establishment of his luxury pearl company Mikimoto
Diet Sabya posted a picture of Riddhima’s design alongwith the original one. They wrote, “The legendary Kokichi Mikimoto is known in the pearl world as the ‘King of Pearls’. His ‘cultured pearls’ —patented in 1916 — is a benchmark for the industry at large. So, naturally ‘Jewellery designer of the year’, @riddhimakapoorsahniofficial couldn’t help herself from selling the iconic Mikimoto pearl and diamond earrings under her namesake label. If this is not #gutsontoast, we don’t know what is”
In response to the accusation, Riddhima issued an apology on her Instagram page for not tagging the original designer.
Her post read, “Dear Insta family, we at Riddhima Kapoor Sahani jewellery do not encourage plagiarism! We are extremely sorry fo not tagging the original designer for an inspirational post of diamond and pearl earrings by Mikimoto Kokichi- a legend with pearls! We respect the creativity of every designer and would not copy or disregard any of them. Thank you”
