Shravan 2019: Auspicious Festival for those Who Love Sweets
Shravan – the auspicious month as per the Indian calendar has already begun and the devotees have started worshiping Lord Shiva with full enthusiasm. It is one of the biggest festivals of the years.
Shravan month is devoted to Lord Shiva where people seek blessings by fasting and conducting prayers. During this month-long festival, Special puja is observed on every Monday in the month which is also called Shravani Somvar. The festivities are followed by Hindu mythology’s rules that’s why certain foods and practices are prohibited.
This month is a celebration of sweets, colors, colorful leheriyas, songs, Mehendi, different food items and many more. People exchange sweet dishes made up of flour, dry fruits, milk, etc. as gifts.
Sawan month witnesses different varieties of sweets. The most common and popular of all is Ghewar.
Ghewar is a sweet cake. Which is also known as ‘MONSOON CAKE’. People love ghewar around the globe. It is a traditional Rajasthani sweet in the shape of a disc.
Other than ghewar there are other sweets which are famous in Shravan month. One such dish is Gazar Pak. Gazar pak is sweet pudding from the Indian subcontinent. It is made by placing grated carrots, milk and sugar and dry fruits.
Peda is also famous sweets in this month. Peda is known pudding shaped sweet which were made in different parts of the country. It is famous in areas like Agra, Vrindavan, and Mathura, etc. During this month, in Jharkhand & Bihar peda is used as Prasad as well as to offer as a gift.
Other sweets like Motichoor Ke Ladoo, Kesar Rabri, Malpua, like Sohan Halwa, Raj Bhog, etc are also famous in different parts of the country during monsoons seasons.
