Spiciest Dishes To Set Your Tongue On Fire!
When it comes to spicy food, Indians don’t hold back! We have some of the spiciest dishes in our arsenal thanks to all the spices we regularly use. But there are still some dishes that take the cake in this category.
Indian cuisine uses a lot of spices because let’s be real, spices are the real taste. There are many states known for their extraordinary use of chillies in their dishes.
Will that stop food enthusiasts from chomping down? They’ll answer ‘no’ through their watery eyes and runny noses!
I’m listing down the spiciest dishes that our bountiful country has that will make your mouth water and your brows sweat!
Vindaloo:
Vin for vinegar and ahlo for ginger in Portuguese, vindaloo is a Goan masterpiece. This curry is made with juicy pork (or any meat of your choice), tingly spicy chilli peppers and lots of garlic and vinegar. It has lots of other spices as well that give it its taste. Enjoy with a steaming bowl of rice or laccha parathas. Or just dig in. This mouth-numbing chilli monster will definitely leave you wanting more!
Phaal Curry:
Get your gas masks ready because this will hit you right in the face. This dish uses a lot of Bhut Naga Jolokia, one of the SPICIEST chillies in the world. WORLD! It can be made using any meat. Meat is paired with lots of ginger, whole chillies, and chilli powder. Across restaurants, this dish is an eating challenge! People have also complained of severe vomiting and burned tongues. Now that I have given you a fair warning, Bon appetit!
Laal Maans:
It is an all-time Rajasthani speciality. Laal maans is made using the very spicy Rajasthani red chillies known as Mathania. This is what colours the dish with its signature red. There are two rules for this dish. One, it always uses mustard oil. There is no way around it and two, it should have a smoky flavour. It uses whole red chillies and a pitara of spices and it tastes the best cooked over an open fire! It is extremely hot but you cannot be stopped after you have a taste.
Chicken 65:
This might be the most popular and most consumed dish of all time. Personally I could eat a dozen plates of this. A classic dish from Tamil Nadu, this dish is originally very spicy as compared to the dumbed-down mild version you get everywhere else. This dish uses a lot of red chillies, ginger, and garlic which gives it its tingly pungent taste. Ah, heavenly angels dancing on my tongue!
Kolhapuri chicken:
From the state of Maharashtra, I bring to you the ever spicy Kolhapuri chicken! Kolhapur is very well known for its extremely fiery curries and spices. This dish is no exception. The chicken pieces sit and marinate in a mix of cloves, dried red chillies and garlic paste. Then it is slow-cooked in a coconut-based curry. Get ready to fall head over heels for this dish because you cannot stop eating it, even though your eyes and nose water and beg for relief!
Andhra chilli chicken:
This is also known as green chilli chicken thanks to the number of green chillies used to make it. South is extremely famous for its spices and chillies and this dish uses a lot of those. It is too hot to handle as this dish is made with green chillies used as a paste. The chicken here is versatile. It is marinated first with the chilli paste and then stir-fried or deep-fried. Make it into a curry or a dry appetizer. Totally up to you.
This will put your mouth on fire so keep your lassis and sherbets handy, folks!
While I’m drooling over these spiciest dishes and foraging for ingredients, why don’t you put on your aprons and start cooking?
