Today, the 19th May is extremely crucial for the 23rd chief minister of Karnataka as he has been directed by the apex court of the country to prove his majority. Everybody know crystal clear that the Bhartiya Janata Party is having the total strength of 104 MLAs, seven/ eight short of the required half mark to continue as the chief minister the post to which he was sworn in by the governor Vajubhai despite all odds and being in minority giving 15 days time now truncated by the highest court of the land.

But, what looks strange is the Karnataka’s 3rd time chief minister is still over confident and is hundred percent hopeful of winning the floor test. Sounds interesting as nobody really know where would he afterall bring the requisite lawmakers to fulfill the majority.

Even if 8 MLAs have to abstain how would it really happen is the mot question as all the JD(S) and Congress MLAs are locked under very tight vigilance and supervision. But there is a saying that money and power has great influence. But will it really happen? Everybody is keeping his or her fingers crossed.

The whole country is watching the developments with great interest and the prestige of the top leaders including the prime minister Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah and B S Yedyurappa is at stake.

Afterall winning 104 seats in such a challenging situation and being the largest duly elected party in Karnataka how can the BJP high command loose the power that is in hand and its CM already on the power saddle.

There is a total silence on the part of the top BJP leadership after the unexpected directions of the three judge bench of the Supreme Court asking the Karnataka CM to prove his majority at 4.00 PM in the state assembly. While the Congress and JD(S) combine has every reason to be jubilant the BJP seems to be tremendously worried.

However, still over confident Yedyurappa is full of energy saying that he will surely muster the requisite strength and will come out triumphant with flying colours.

He has appealed to the Congress – JD(S) Lawmakers to vote according to their inner consciense and not be afraid of anyone unambiguously meaning that they should vote for him.

But again the point is will they and why should they vote for him defying the party whip and putting their newly elected membership to the risk of disqualification under the anti defection law.

Today’s night therefore can be termed as, as is usually said during elections ” Katl ki raat” as a muhavra by politicians as tomorrow is the oath taking n thereafter voting under the strict vigilance, supervision and monitoring of the Supreme Court of India.

However, it is learnt that the chief minister has already as per the court’s directive nominated the pro term speaker namely Bopaiah the former speaker of Karnataka Assembly considered to be the close hand man of Yedyurappa and infamous for one of his earlier actions disqualifying the 15 BJP MLAshaving become hostile to the then CM Yedyrappa few years ago and badly reprimanded by the apex court who ‘ d then restored the maembership of the disqualified law makers of Karnataka.

Let’s see what happens at 4.00 PM in the Karnataka Assembly but one thing is for sure that if even after so much of intervention BS Yedyurappa’s government survives it would definitely be the black letter day in the history of India as said by Randeep Singh Surjewala in his press conference yesterday as it would be construed that a minority government over majority has survived despite 8 lawmakers short in numbers.

Meanwhile, the chief minister has announced that soon after winning the vote of confidence he would convene a cabinet meeting and unanimously endorse two important decisions pertaining to complete withdrawal of lans to farmers and pensions to the seniir citizens, widows n farmers of the state. This seems to be masterstroke to entice opposition lawmakers.

The supreme court is also hearing the petition of Congress, JD(S ) combine objecting to the arbitrary apointment of K. G. Bopaiah as a pro term speaker as there are several more senior members in the house. Moreover, in 2012 Bopaiah has already been reprimanded by the Supreme Court in 2012 when as pro term speaker he had arbitrarily disqualified 14 MLAs to illegally and unconstitutionally help Yedyurappa. The supreme court had later on revoked their membership holding Bopaiha responsible for the misdeeds. What’s your take friends?
