Yeddyurappa wins floor test
The fourth time newly sworn-in chief minister of Karnataka BJP leader and former CM BS Yeddyurappa has won the floor test by seeking the votes of 106 MLAs in the Karnataka Vidhan Soudha against the 99 lawmakers’ strength of the Congress JD ( S ) combine.
However, the risk still exists as there would be by-polls in the 17 assembly seats of Karnataka which have fallen vacant after the revocation of the assembly seats of the dissidents MLAs of Congress and JD ( S).
Now in order to ensure the continuation of their government further the Bhartiya Janata Party will have to ensure that at least it wins on 6 to 8 seats out 17 as the majority of these seats are of Congress and JD ( S ) bastions. It may be recalled that the membership relinquished was of three JD( S) MLAs, one independent and rest all from Congress party.
Meanwhile, the speaker of Karnataka Vidhan Soudha KR Ramesh has also tendered his resignation from the post and handed it to the deputy speaker who’d conduct the house till the new BJP nominee will be appointed as the new speaker. Now, since the ball is in the BJP’s court, it will have to electorally wrest minimum six to eight seats out of the total seventeen vacant MLAs seats during the elections to be held within six months failing which it may have the grave risk of losing the confidence motion in the house after six months.
Now, all the political parties viz Congress, JD( S) and BJP will leave no stone unturned to ensure the victories of maximum MLAs in the bypolls likely to be held within 6 months. while the Congress JD ( S) require about 13 MLAs to win to seek majority the BJP require lesser numbers, at least 6 MLAs.
